Vacuum pump for THG

Busch donated a high performance vacuum pump to the Theodor-Heuss-School.

The principal Wolfgang Stocker and the responsible person for natural sciences Karlheinz Abt were very thankful when Dr. Karl Busch and Sami Busch handed over the vacuum pump shortly before summer break. The vacuum pump will mainly be used in physics in order to make different experiments.

Maulburg's company Busch has been obliged to the THG for many years.

Since 2001 Sami Busch has been chairman of the "Freunde des Gymnasiums e.V.". Dr. Karl Busch was also chairman for many years and was appointed to the honorary chairman in 2007.

The now donated vacuum pump was produced in the Maulburger Busch manufacturing plant. It is a pump version, which was constructed by Karl Busch 45 years ago. The follow-up models are still market leader and over two million of those vacuum pumps from Maulburg are used all over the world.

Students from Zell Realschule visit Busch

26 students from class 9e of Zell Realschule secondary school recently visited Busch in Maulburg to have an insight into the daily work life of a modern industrial company. This company tour was offered by the school within the scope of the "BORS Kompakt" programme. Students and their teacher Werner Knoblich were guided through the various production departments where we make vacuum pumps and vacuum systems for the world market. In a presentation given to the students, they were informed where vacuum pumps are used and learnt that numerous things in everyday life could not be produced or would only be available in far lower quality without a vacuum. The international atmosphere at Busch was interesting for the students, who all opted for languages as their main subject in school. The international nature of the company became clear in the shipping department, where vacuum pumps for various other Busch companies are packed for shipment around the world. This is a good example of how globalisation also creates a large number of jobs at home. The students also learnt that the Wiesental region is the cradle of vacuum technology. In 1885, Karl Wittig, grandfather of Dr. Karl Busch, invented the rotary vane compressor in Zell. Its technical and functional principle was later also applied to build vacuum pumps and is used in millions today. The students were given the chance to ask questions on professional training and discuss what they had seen during a snack with all participants.

VIP visit from Virginia

The excellent international relations of the Maulburg-based company Busch were demonstrated again this week: the Mayor of Virginia Beach in the US state of Virginia and a group of representatives visited the vacuum technology specialists based in Maulburg, which also runs a large production site in Virginia Beach. Mayor Will Sessoms and his wife, Beverly, the Director of Economic Management Warren Harris and Robert Ruhl, Business Development and Marketing Manager in Virginia Beach, spent a whole day in Maulburg. The visitors discussed the possibilities for future business developments and investments and also enjoyed a guided tour of the production site at the Busch headquarters. Busch has operated a production site and a sales company in Virginia Beach since as early as 1975, where vacuum pumps and systems are manufactured for the North American and to some extent also the Pacific region. Virginia Beach is located right on the east coast of the USA, about 350 kilometres south of Washington D.C. With 438,000 inhabitants, it is the largest city in Virginia. Apart from tourism – the city has a 45 kilometre-long sand beach – there are also many industrial businesses. The well-known German companies Stihl, Bosch and also Busch have their main US plants in Virginia Beach. Busch has been nurturing its links with the regional politicians since the foundation of the company in the city. The personal contacts and the close partnership with the official public representatives and politicians also include the federal state governor, who was also a guest at Busch in Maulburg a few years ago.

Vacuum central systems for packaging

In its latest edition the "Fleischereitechnik" magazine reported about a Busch manufactured vacuum central system, which is used by the company Hans Kupfer & Sohn GmbH & Co. KG. Kupfer, one of the most modern and biggest production plants in Europe, produces 28.000 tons of meat per annum in the Bavarian Heilsbronn. Concerning vacuum supply, Kupfer completely relies on Busch. A Busch central vacuum system supplies the company with the required vacuum that mainly serves the meat packaging. Due to the central vacuum system, which was especially designed for the company's requirements, Kupfer was able to decrease its operation costs drastically. Since the vacuum supply is located outside the manufacturing area, it is classified as a "High-Risk-Hygiene area". Other than that there is no rejected heat inside the manufacturing area, which results in an energy reduction. Offprints of this article can be ordered at info@busch.de

Busch on the grid at Silverstone

Busch is sponsoring the 'TUfast' racing team from the Technische Universität München (Technical University of Munich). Each year, this team of budding engineers builds a race car for the 'Formula SAE' student design competition and competes in races. 'Formula SAE' was set up in 1979 by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) in the USA and, first and foremost, is a design competition giving a practical opportunity to convey extensive teamwork, project management and cost management skills to future engineers during their studies.

Busch is providing the vacuum technology that is required to manufacture the individual carbon fibre components in the infusion process. The hybrid chassis is manufactured in a 'monocoque' or one-piece design, which places the highest technological demands on the design and manufacturing process. The vacuum pump used by the team ensures that the mould containing the carbon fibres is uniformly saturated with the resin and that air and any generated gases are reliably discharged.

The 'TUfast' racing team will next see action at the Silverstone circuit in the UK, where their focus will lie not only on winning, but also on evaluating the safety, design and costing of the newly designed race car.
