Busch vacuum pumps at "World Solar Challenge" in Australia

The "World Solar Challenge" is a 3.000 km race in Australia in which only solar operated vehicles are allowed to participate. One of the 38 participating teams was the Umicore Solar Team from Belgium. The team members are 14 former students of the International University College in Leuven/Belgium. In order to be able to repair carbon fibre damages during the race, the team took a R 5 rotary vane vacuum pump with them. With this vacuum pump the team was able to laminate and harden car body panels under vacuum after a crash. R 5 vacuum pumps are worldwide the standard vacuum pumps in composites material processing.

Innovation awards for Busch

Busch received two international innovation awards this October: In the middle of the month Busch received the "JEC Asia Award" in Singapore. This award appreciates the innovative activity of Busch in the field of nano technology and the development of composites materials. Last week Busch received the "AVK Innovation Award" in Stuttgart for the same development. Not only in the plastics industry Busch has been active this fall. In October Busch presented its vacuum pumps and systems at nine different trade shows in Germany, USA, Poland, the Netherlands, China and Singapore. The innovations in the nano technology market segment was developed by the Swiss company Composites Busch in cooperation with Huntsman. Huntsman is the leading manufacturer of resin systems based in Basle, Switzerland. In practice the new technology was used for the creation of a new generation of Busch ice hockey sticks. Ostensibly, ice hockey sticks have not much in common with vacuum pumps. However, the results of the research will be integrated into the development of new products in the field of vacuum technology. In Porrentruy Switzerland, Busch produces ice hockey sticks of carbon and fibre glass. These are formed and afterwards resin, which was developed with nano technology, is injected. This is the first ice hockey stick worldwide, which consists only of one piece. This production method has also the advantage that the ice hockey stick can be adapted to the individual needs of an ice hockey player. Therefore many top international ice hockey players order a Busch ice hockey stick where they can have an influence on the characteristics of the stick such as flexibility and the geometric form. In other applications of plastics processing Busch vacuum technique is used. This was demonstrated at the plastics trade show Fakuma in Friedrichshafen, which also took place in October. At the exhibition Busch displayed vacuum systems, which are used for material loading at plastics processing machines.

Busch presented the Mink claw technology with a higher suction capacity for the first time

At Fakuma Busch presented its new Mink version with a higher suction capacity for the first time: Many visitors were interested in the complete dry compressing vacuum generator, which can also be used for the material loading of an extruder.

With the new Mink MP 0500 Busch has a solution for the bigger extruders and therefore higher amounts of pellets. In plastic industry Mink claw vacuum pumps are used to carry pellets and additives from the storage silo to the extruder.

Mink claw technology is also used for the degassing of plastics in an extruder.

For this application Busch also presented solutions at Fakuma in Friedrichshafen.

Vacuum systems for the solar industry

At the end of September Busch presented its latest vacuum systems for the solar industry at the "24th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Exhibition" in Hamburg.

Busch vacuum pumps are used for the production of solar modules worldwide.

The feedback at the exhibition was great. The fair takes place every year in different European cities. After Milan and Valencia the exhibition was held in Hamburg this year. People from all over the world visited the exhibition.

For the production of solar modules Busch vacuum technique is required in different processes such as the production of silicon, the lamination of solar modules and for the different coating processes.

Busch supplies innovative vacuum systems.

A lot of foreign solar experts, mainly from Asian countries visited the booth where the latest vacuum technologies presented.

Trainees started their apprenticeship

Four new trainees have started their apprenticeship at Busch. Before the new Busch employees started they had the opportunity to visit the company together with their parents. A company presentation was held and also the company was shown to them. The parents and trainees were surprised at the big range of vacuum pumps and the many applications they are used in.

During the three and a half years of apprenticeship the trainees get an overview of all processes and will be trained extensively.

For every apprenticeship Busch has instructors who can support the new trainees.

The new trainees are the following: Tim Greiner (industrial mechanic), Xenia Eberenz (industrial clerk), Sven Kropf (industrial mechanic) and Patrick Greiner (industrial mechanic).

Busch employees celebrate together with Swiss colleagues

Maulburg. Last weekend Busch invited all employees to a summer celebration in a pavilion on the premises of Busch Maulburg. With more than 400 employees, 170 from the Swiss companies Ateliers Busch S.A. in Chevenez, Composites Busch S.A. in Porrentruy and Busch AG in Magden, the pavilion was crowded.

The performance of the Busch Brass Band, which was formed up for this occasion, took centre stage of the event. The wish of all Busch employees to forget the concerns of everyday life was fulfilled.

Ayla, Sami and Kaya Busch welcomed all employees in the pavilion. In his speech Kaya Busch talked about the successful history of the company and also showed parallels to the owner family. He also emphasised that Busch is still a family-owned business. Ayhan Busch and Dr. Karl Busch founded the company in 1963, the same year they got married.

At the summer celebration also the 75th birthday of Ayhan Busch and the 80th birthday of Dr. Karl Busch were celebrated. In the name of 2200 employees worldwide the attendant General Managers handed over a book with photos of all employees in 55 companies.

The plants in Chevenez and Maulburg have developed a new vacuum pump together which was also handed over. The most difficult thing according to Ralf Kappertz was not developing the pump but making sure that Dr. Busch and Ayhan Busch don't discover this secret project.

The employees of Busch Composites in Porrentruy gave Ayhan and Dr. Karl Busch a special edition of a hockey stick. Composites Busch is not only a manufacturer of components for the vacuum technology but also one of the biggest manufacturers of hockey sticks.

A big surprise was the performance of the Busch Brass Band. The band consisting of 17 people had formed up for this event and was the highlight of the celebration.

At the end the Busch employees came up with something special for Dr. Karl Busch and his wife: A birthday cake with illuminated sparklers was carried in while the Brass Band played "Happy Birthday" and everybody else sang along.
